The thinner string (17g) will provide more spin because there is more space between the strings. There will be more feel of the ball as well. Strings will be less durable, but the extent is based a lot on how you hit. To compensate for the thinner strings, I recommend dropping tension 1-2 lbs when you switch to a thinner gauge so that the strings don't appear as stiff or have more shock to your arm.
